On receiving an initial inquiry from a potential client, I offer a face-to-face meeting at the earliest opportunity. This meeting gives both parties a chance to discuss all the options, not just an opportunity for me to ‘sell you’ a package. Remember, every wedding is personal and will demand a unique approach. The meeting also gives me the opportunity to show you my portfolio of wedding photography so that you can see exactly the sort of quality and coverage to expect.I will also show you a selection of albums available as well as brochures giving a larger range of styles. The final choice of album and the number and style of pages can be left until much nearer the wedding date or even afterwards.
I like to discuss the style of photography too - whether you prefer traditional posed groups, less formal reportage style or a combination of both.
Not everyone is entirely happy in front of a camera - they may be ‘camera shy’ or feel that they are not photogenic. In some instances, therefore, it can be a great advantage to have some photographs taken by me at your home some time before the wedding. This will help create a good relationship and build up your confidence, which should make your wedding day photography a much more enjoyable experience.
Coverage
Photographic coverage will normally start at the bride’s home prior to the wedding ceremony. At this time I would take formal and informal photographs of the bride and bridesmaids. I will then leave for the church to take pictures of guests, the groom, the best man and ushers and then the bride and bride’s father arriving.
I will always liaise with the minister or registrar well before the wedding to ascertain their regulations regarding photography and where they would prefer photographs to be taken. Where photography is allowed within the church or registry office, I will take discreet shots throughout the service and then more formal ones during the signing of the register.
After the ceremony I will take a limited number of group photographs outside – any group shots not taken at this time can be taken at the reception venue. My assistant will help arrange the groups to ensure that the time spent taking these photographs is kept to a minimum.
At the reception area I will photograph the larger groups and any other groups that were not taken earlier. Previously I will have visited this venue and the church to assess the lighting and best photographic settings. I will also have pre-arranged an area under cover for these group shots in the unfortunate event of wet weather.
My final photographs will be of the speeches and the cutting of the cake. If required, I can remain available for an evening reception and, following the first dance, take what are usually more informal pictures.
